Zandvoort

Friday, 13. July 2018 to Sunday, 15. July 2018

The circuit provides high-speed sections on the one hand and a lot of slow, tight corners on the other. The Dutch racetrack is special in many respects. Here, the DTM drivers race in the dunes from bay to bay - the name of nearly every corner is containing this term. After all, the circuit is located just a stone's throw away from the North Sea. For the fans and drivers this means: real beach feeling combined with spectacular motor racing action. So, while the drivers and cars are taken to the very limit by the 4.307-kilometre circuit, the spectators can watch them while lazing on the dunes.

Race highlights

The DTM carries out two races on all race weekends. The distance is always 55 minutes plus one lap.

The FIA Formula 3 European Championship is the leading junior series in Europe. Anyone who shines here has good prospects for a cockpit in the DTM or Formula 1.

The Supercar Challenge was first held in 2011. Supercars such as the Ferrari 458, the Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo, the Porsche 997 or the Mercedes SLS drive in the highest class.

The GT & Prototype Challenge was split off from the Supercar Challenge in 2017 and is home to spectacular GT racers and LMP3 cars.

On 03rd June, 1939, a street circuit in the heart of Zandvoort was the venue of the first Dutch motor-racing event. The success of this event made the town's mayor initiate the construction of a permanent racetrack - but due to World War II, the realisation of the project could be started only in 1946. Two years later, the facility was officially opened.

From 1952 to 1985, Formula One contested a total of 32 Dutch GPs at the dune circuit. The last F1 race at Zandvoort was won by Niki Lauda, with Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna completing the podium. This win also turned out to be the last triumph of Austria's three-time World Champion. But the Zandvoort record book features far more famous Dutch GP winners, such as Juan Manuel Fangio, Wolfgang Graf Berghe von Trips, Graham Hill, Jim Clark, Jackie Stewart, Jochen Rindt, Jacky Ickx, James Hunt, Nelson Piquet or Alain Prost - They all made it to the top step of the Zandvoort podium. In the 1970s, the circuit was modified - after the fatal accidents of the F1 drivers Piers Courage and Roger Williamson - by two chicanes.

After Formula One's decision to remove Zandvoort from its calendar Zandvoort became the home of the prestigious Formula Three Masters, with many winners of this race making it to Formula One: David Coulthard, Pedro Lamy, Jos Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas are just some of them. Meanwhile, several names in the Masters record book also will be well-known to the DTM enthusiasts: Paul di Resta and Daniel Juncadella won the race, with Ralf Schumacher and Marco Wittmann finishing runner-up.

The last modification of the circuit to date was realised in 1998. Since then, the track length amounts to 4.307 kilometres. And since 2001, Zandvoort has been an integral part of the DTM calendar. This means that the Dutch race meeting is the most tradition-rich DTM abroad race.

... Zandvoort has been an integral part of every single DTM season, thus being the most tradition-rich abroad race on the calendar.

... many of the current DTM drivers regard the Circuit Park as their favourite circuit.

... BMW made for a historic triumph in 2015: seven drivers of the manufacturer secured all the top-seven positions - DTM record.

…Gary Paffett, winner in 2009 and 2010, was the first DTM driver to prevail at Zandvoort in two consecutive years.

.. Mattias Ekström, four-time winner at Zandvoort, is the most successful driver in the history of the Dutch DTM event.

... Mattias Ekström (2002), Mike Rockenfeller (2011) and António Félix da Costa (2015) all secured their DTM debut wins at Zandvoort.

... wind and stirred up dust make for differing track conditions on every single lap and so, the drivers need a dose of luck for finding a clean lap.

... the first Dutch motor racing event - a street race in heart of Zandvoort, was held in June 1939.

... Formulas One contested a total of 32 Dutch GPs at Zandvoort.

...the final Formula One race at Zandvoort was held in 1985. The race was won by three-time F1 World Champion Niki Lauda, with this win also being the final win in the Austrian's GP driver career.
